# Meowven OS 0.1.0 — 2026-09-29

First public release of the Arch-based Meowbah fan distribution, with separate
Plasma and Hyprland x86-64 live images.

Both public ISOs were downloaded in full and matched the sizes and SHA256
checksums of the locally tested images. Download headers and first/last byte
range requests also passed. The public source archive and both build-metadata
files were downloaded and hash-verified.

Download [SHA256SUMS](https://downloads.clxcht.com/0.1.0/SHA256SUMS) alongside
your chosen files, then run `sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS` in that
directory. Every downloaded file must report `OK` before use. The public files
do not require GitHub access; the development repository remains private.

Build metadata is available in [PLASMA-BUILD.txt](https://downloads.clxcht.com/0.1.0/PLASMA-BUILD.txt)
and [HYPRLAND-BUILD.txt](https://downloads.clxcht.com/0.1.0/HYPRLAND-BUILD.txt).

## Included

- Plasma 6.7.5 desktop or an independent Hyprland 0.56.2 desktop. Hyprland preserves
the owner's Gentoo layout and controls with dark plum and Meowbah pink colors,
  Kitty, Wofi, Thunar and Waybar.
- Supplied Meowbah artwork, desktop cursor, offline Shrine and Meowven identity.
- `meow` package commands and the `ameow` graceful-shutdown prayer, included
normally in both images. `ameow --dry-run` previews the command.
- Calamares 3.4.3-2 with Meowven branding. Plasma uses its X11 live desktop;
Hyprland supplies a separate **Meowven installer (X11)** session.

Shared Meowven packages are `meowven-branding 0.1.0-4`, `meowven-meow 0.1.0-2`
and `meowven-installer 0.1.0-3`; Hyprland adds `meowven-hyprland 0.1.0-2`.

## What was tested

The Plasma release image passed local checksum verification and a fresh
UEFI/KVM/Virgl boot into Plasma 6.7.5 X11. Read-only checks passed for package
versions, desktop processes, DNS and the absence of Hyprland packages. Konsole,
Fastfetch and the updated wallpaper were checked. The real Calamares Welcome
page opened and cancelled cleanly, leaving the empty 40 GiB virtual disk
unchanged. Running `ameow` in Konsole as the normal live user shut down the VM
cleanly; QEMU exited with status 0.

The unchanged Hyprland image booted with UEFI, KVM and Virgl in QEMU on the
Gentoo host. Its desktop smoke checks reported **0 failures and 0 warnings**,
including configuration, services, keybindings, wallpaper, DNS and audio-service
availability. Kitty/Fastfetch, Wofi, Thunar, screenshot capture and power-menu
cancellation passed. Running `ameow` in Kitty as the normal live user shut down
the VM cleanly; QEMU exited with status 0.

The first Hyprland image reached Calamares Welcome and cancelled cleanly. The
test selected the X11 session through a temporary SDDM autologin setting inside
the guest; manual session-dropdown selection was unreliable and remains
unverified. The virtual disk had no partitions or filesystem signatures afterward.

Source validation passed all 53 tests, source asset/checksum checks, shell and
package-recipe syntax, and Shrine JavaScript syntax.
The source-checks workflow also includes 15 release-publishing tests: eight
Worker tests and seven Python tests.

## Limits

Use a disposable VM first. No partitioning, complete installation, installed
reboot or physical NVIDIA hardware test has passed yet. Secure Boot is not
implemented. Hyprland audio playback, portal screen sharing and extended use
remain unverified. Its live boot journal recorded `systemd-dissect` messages
about `sr0` partitions and loop attachment despite a mounted live ISO and working
desktop; the smoke check's zero-warning count applies to its own checks.

## Source and provenance

The public source archive is the exact verified `source-final.tar.gz` snapshot
used for both release images. Build/runtime files match the source
being published; documentation and release-publishing tools changed afterward.
It contains no VM disks or private credentials. Arch repositories roll forward,
so this is source provenance, not a promise of bit-for-bit reproducible rebuilds.

Hyprland's original local filename was
`meowven-os-hyprland-0.1.0-2026.09.28-x86_64.iso`; only its download name changes.
The Plasma release image was freshly built on 2026-09-29.
The earlier private Plasma ISO from source `3924aa3` and Actions run
`36442530506` is not the Plasma release download: it predates `ameow` and the
latest wallpaper/Shrine changes.

This is an unofficial fan project. Original code is GPL-3.0-or-later; bundled
artwork, fonts and third-party packages retain their own rights and credits.
